Thoughts on the “hoo ha” around “Climate Emergency” and COP 27

I wasn’t planning to do another climate change blog so soon but the subject along with the climate emergency that me and others think is not such an emergency won’t go away. Let me explain …

The meme is an extract from a recent Guardian article. It seemed to me that it made a reasonable point that people protesting against lack of activity tackling climate change should be allowed to do so providing they do so lawfully, not stopping others going about their daily business or else face the consequences. My Green Party activist friend who posted this wrote: “The Green Party has long offered to tackle climate breakdown but can’t get beyond the anti-democratic FPTP system. We face an unprecedented scale of suffering and hundreds of millions of deaths – that level of harm warrants dynamic action. Even if the majority of people in the UK don’t want to see dynamic action on climate, there is still a duty upon the minority to attempt to stop that majority from killing tens of millions in the Horn of Africa”. I made the same point I made here regarding lawful protest and added my scepticism, pointing to a recent article I wrote: “Climate Emergency – The Great Con

I was taken to task by a Christian friend, even being put to shame, for not supporting activists urging action to tackle the Climate Emergency given the cost to life by not doing what is needed. He shared an example of Christian activism and pushed an event “COP27 March for Climate Justice with Christian Aid”, adding the comment “Non Christians need to know that the Churches and Christians are involved with what is happening in the world today”. I should add that I am observing many Christians jumping on the “stop the climate emergency” band wagon, including those who tend to keep away from political activism and the like. Christians certainly don’t sing from the same hymn sheet on the subject. One friend (see here for his website) sees himself like Joseph in the Bible, who dealt with the climate emergency of his day. My two previous blogs have a bearing on what I am seeing, including my concern we are not just being unhelpfully distracted, but it is all part of “the plan” by the evil cabal to create a crisis as it seeks to take over the Planet and depopulate and enslave humanity.

Which brings me to COP27, the 27th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, being held in Egypt from 6 to 18 November 2022. I wrote concerning the previous COP conference “COP26, Climate Change, Covid-19 and the Great Reset”, expressing my antipathy and belief there is no Climate Emergency, or at least compared with other emergencies I blog about, and many of the elite who attended COP26, and now 27, are virtue signalling but, even worse, dumbing down humanity while implementing their climate agenda that has a direct bearing on the energy crisis, food shortages and supply chain breakdown, now being played out.  COP27 is seeking renewal of solidarity between countries to deliver on the “landmark” Paris Agreement, and the plan of “Delivering for people and the planet”, where heads of State, ministers and negotiators, along with climate activists, mayors, civil society representatives and CEOs will meet in the Egyptian coastal city of Sharm el-Sheikh for the largest annual gathering on climate action, or so we are told!

Pertinent to this post are the following articles:

  1. What is COP27 and why is it important?” (giving a positive spin on COP27, along with some helpful background)
  2. COP 27 / 10 Climate Commandments / Hugo Talks” (giving a negative spin – attacking the new climate change religion that flies in the face of true religion)
  3. COP27: King Charles hosts meeting ahead of climate summit (he is not attending; as king he has to be careful when giving his views, but is well known for his views, and has recently hosted a reception for many going to COP27).
  4. COP27: Rishi Sunak urges global push on ‘clean growth” (previously he was not going but now is putting himself forward as a champion for tackling the “Climate Emergency”)

I don’t wish to articulate my concerns (my articles referred to earlier do so well enough) but as I reflect on the assorted craziness we are seeing right now in the world, a lot of which has still to play out (how – nobody knows) I realise the (so called) Climate Emergency has to be added to the mix and the people of God need to fix their thoughts and hopes on God, who keeps all His promises.
