A friend of mine asked me: what I thought of this article titled: Why are so many people against Trump?
The author suggested several reasons this is so (check out the link for the elaboration of each point):
1.) Unethical
2.) He is a terrible ally who is eroding the world’s trust in the USA
3.) Anti-Intellectualism and shameless peddling of conspiracy theories
4.) High level members of his campaign were crooks and traitors
5.) He scapegoats immigrants and appeals to racism within the American populace
6.) No respect for the rule of law
7.) His Administration is a chaotic, poorly run mess
8.) Many people believe that he wasn’t elected fairly.
9.) Miscellaneous
Having read the article, I have to say I was disappointed. I get it that there are many who don’t like Trump, including friends and people I respect but, while I accept he is flawed, I felt some of the reasoning given here was weak. I am not going to invest lots of energy going through each point, which I can do where I possess the facts, but will give my brief response here …
1.) Unethical – I agree some of his ethics before becoming President were suspect to say the least, but I am not convinced on some of the reasons given here, especially following becoming President. While I agree he is a flawed character (aren’t we all) and one of the flaws I picked up long ago was his narcissism, he has acted more ethically than many, including unlike many politicians delivering on his promises.
2.) He is a terrible ally who is eroding the world’s trust in the USA – on the contrary. Where he differs from previous presidents is that is is a nationalist and not a globalist, and that does add to conflict. It seems to me that he is doing relatively well dealing with some of the “difficult” world leaders and has not been shy in standing up to some of the real villains.
3.) Anti-Intellectualism and shameless peddling of conspiracy theories – while intellectual is not a word I would use for describing Trump, he is intelligent and he is more right than wrong. Conspiracy theorist is a pejorative term often used against those who question the official version of events. I am glad we have a President that is not afraid to do so and expect surprises where we have been duped. I hope soon we will know what really happened with JFK and 9/11 and villainy afoot to discredit Trump and his campaign that puts the Russia collusion delusion in perspective.
4.) High level members of his campaign were crooks and traitors – and some like Michael Flynn are national heroes. Interesting no mention made of treachery by anti-Trumpers. And if we are about the Mueller report, it was a witch hunt showing nothing – a diversion to let the real crooks and traitors off.
5.) He scapegoats immigrants and appeals to racism within the American populace – o no he doesn’t.
6.) No respect for the rule of law – o yes he does
7.) His Administration is a chaotic, poorly run mess – partly true but look what he has inherited.
8.) Many people believe that he wasn’t elected fairly – what about Democrat vote rigging?
9.) Miscellaneous – yawn
Some will be aware that since Trump threw his hat in the ring as a presidential hopeful and after when he became President, I have written a number of articles reflecting on what has been happening around Trump and on his responses. These have been collected in an e-book titled: Donald J Trump – bad, mad or good? and conclude he is more good than bad / mad. Two articles that were included, which are pertinent to my response, are Why Trump is good for the world – winning the end game and Why this Brit is glad Trump is US President.
Interestingly, and in fairness to the website admin team who hosted this “hit piece”, there were several responses giving alternative responses and even sticking up for Trump. I cannot fully psycho-analyse why many are against Trump, including thoughtful and decent types who I know, and with skewed opinion polls who knows whether they are more or less than those who are for Trump. But I would like to suggest the following important reason: powerful forces including mainstream media, academia, Hollywood, vociferous “libtards”, the Deep State and globalists are against Trump and woe betide those who disagree. Sadly, my friends who go along with this may have been sold a lie. Even so, I refuse to look on Trump with rose tinted glasses, and he won’t get my endorsement if his name were put forward to be the Pastor of my church, but every day I thank God He has given this flawed man to us.
