It has been my privilege these past three weeks to preach on the life and times of Elijah the prophet, starting from when Elijah first announces himself, telling the king that there will be no rain until he says so, up to the time he is taken up to heaven in a chariot of fire. These are my slides (The Life and Times of Elijah the prophet 1, The Life and Times of Elijah the prophet 2 and The Life and Times of Elijah the prophet 3) and here the audio of one of the sermons.
Elijah particularly resonates with me:
- He lived in a day of false religion and rebellion against God
- He was a man of faith
- He spoke God’s message, even though it was unpopular
- He was a rough and ready type of character
- He was a depressive and had his faults
- He successfully passed on the baton to his successor (Elisha)
- He made an important difference in the culture he lived in
