The British Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

The British Queen’s Platinum Jubilee

Today is a special day when many in my country celebrate our Queen’s Platinum Jubilee.

The BBC News headline today is: “Platinum Jubilee: Queen thanks nation as Jubilee weekend begins”.

I have blogged twice concerning the Queen – recently “Operation London Bridge and Queen Elizabeth II” and six years ago “The Queen who is serving the King at 90”. Any who read these articles will note a change in tone over those six years!

Some in my circle have posted with admiration, including two well respected spiritual lady friends: “Remembering our dear Queen today and thanking God for her and her reign over 70 years. May God indeed bless her today and this special weekend. Praying for her and the Royal family” and “The queen often speaks of the gospel more clearly than the archbishop of Canterbury and has been such an example of faithful, dutiful service”. Others, more in the deplorable camp, have been more negative in their thoughts.

I do not wish to be a party pooper, and suggest the right approach is to recognise and respect there are differences in opinion, but it is more than my life’s worth to disagree with these two dear ladies and many more besides who think similarly. I will not be celebrating for reasons intimated in my recent blog. However, I am mindful of what the Bible teaches, written at a time when many rulers were despots.

Though not expected of us, we will be celebrating and making the most of the celebratory atmosphere , dressed in red, white and blue we are headed to share the trooping of the colour with Paul’s parents and will enjoy the opportunity to positively enter into this momentous occasion together. I don’t think we’ll have a better replacement, infact I think her demise will be very detrimental.

Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.’ Ecclesiastes 12:13

  2. Thanks Melanie for your comments and kind thoughts. I hope you enjoyed your Jubilee weekend. Me and Jolly spent it in Felixstowe (and have just got back). While evidence of celebrations everywhere, we managed to escape it all and just chilled out – walking, reading etc. You are right about the correct conclusion. God bless you and yours.

  3. It seems the jubilee celebrations was great PR and one my royalist friends enjoyed, although a lot of antipathy afoot also (for various reasons). Suspect something big will happen soon, so watch this space.
