One of my favourite radio programs, which has been going for as long as I can remember, is Desert Island Discs.

In it the guest celebrity is asked the hypothetical question: if they were to be cast alone on a desert island and were given the choice, which eight gramophone records would they choose to take with them. Check here for Wikipedia’s take on the show and BBC’s own write-up concerning the show, which can be checked out weekly on Radio 4, from where you can listen to over 2000 past episodes.
What I am going to do now is to give my eight choices (not that I anticipate ever being invited onto the show or even people caring lol) with a twist – in real life my choice might be mainly secular but here it is wholly “sacred”. I won’t give rationale for my choices other than these are widely ranging, and have lifted me up at various times in my life. I have picked what appears to be the best example available (often from among several) on YouTube (imho), and which do not include distracting ads or extraneous paraphernalia. I will simply give a title to my choice of hymn or spiritual song and all you need to do is click on to the title YouTube provides in order to play it. These all continue to bless me and I hope they will you too! There are many more great hymns and spiritual songs out there, and we all have our favourites. We are, as they say, spoilt for choice!
