Doctor Dobson is dead. His life impacted many for the good, including me. This is my tribute to the great man.
Continue readingWaving the flag for Britain
One day ago, I posted a link to a short video (without comment as I felt the video and its important message would best speak for itself) titled: “Operation Raise the Colours” (see here) on my Facebook page. One comment received, in stark contrast to the sort of jingoism that might have been stirred up in some wanting to see the British (or St. George’s) flag displayed, made me think. As for the “far right” old dears shown in the meme accompanying this blog, I expect they are typical in wanting to expressing their feelings in the light of the nonsense we are being being subjected to by those in power, intent on taking the UK down a disastrous path …
Continue readingJeremiah, possibly my favourite Bible prophet
If I were asked who is my favourite footballer or cricketer, I would no doubt eventually come up with a name, but I would have been hard pushed to do so because there are several candidates that might have fitted the bill. I face a similar conundrum when it comes to selecting who is my favourite Bible prophet.
Continue readingA visit to Old Leigh, including Osborne’s and the Beach
For the first twelve years of my life, I lived in Leigh-on-Sea, Essex. One of my earliest and also fondest memories were regular family visits to old Leigh (the part of Leigh that is between the beach and Leigh station), situated in-between the river and the railway track.
Continue readingTrumpwatch 72 – Donald goes to Alaska
It was only just over two weeks ago when I posted my Donald goes to Scotland episode in my Trumpwatch series (see here) and now I am following it up with an episode that is just as significant, and that is to do with the Donald’s trip recent to Alaska to meet with Russian President Putin, along with both their entourages but no Ukrainian President or anyone from NATO, about ending the Ukraine war.
Continue readingPoliticians with and without moral fibre and the Palestinian situation
Recently an old friend posted on social media a copy of a letter he sent to his MP (who is my MP too) to do with the MP’s lack of an appropriate response to a dire Palestinian situation, specifically to do with what is happening in Gaza and in his opinion the actions of the Israeli authorities, which he saw as tantamount to genocide, with the party that is in government of the MP going along with it.
Continue readingPreparing for death
As a regular blogger for these past ten years, I have made it my mission to blog about matters that I care about, often sharing my own perspectives. While facing death may be a taboo subject in certain polite circles, it is one subject I care and thought much about, and so dear reader should you. If I were a betting man, and given systems are beginning to shut down in many areas of my life, I would not give good odds for my being around much longer, but how long, especially in the light of better than I peers passing into their eternal destiny, no one can say for certain. It is well then that I prepare for that eventuality. As with paying taxes, we all have to die, so it is best to face the inevitable, and do so as best we can.
Continue readingAdvance UK, Restore Britain and observations of the UK political scene – August 2025
In recent days, I have often had to reflect with increasing consternation on the current dismal political scene and the country that I was born and live in going off in a dangerous direction.
Continue readingEngland versus India Men’s Test Cricket Series 2025 – some thoughts
As a lifelong cricket enthusiast, I have been following the England versus India five match, men’s Test series played over this summer, which ended a few days ago in an honourable drawn series.
Continue readingRemembering Paul Slennett
I am one of many who yesterday, through Facebook, received a notification of the sad but not unexpected passing of my friend Paul Slennett, long time owner of Southend Christian Bookshop and fondly known to many among Southend’s Christian community and a lot further afield. The announcement read:
