One of the many intriguing people I regularly follow as I watch on the wall in order to help understand the confusing, vast array of earth-shattering events is Russell Brand. So that I can cut to the chase and focus on talking about the chap and his work now, you can get an extensive, more than scathing account of his life, career etc. especially his early days, from this Wikipedia article (see here).

On 29/03/22, I wrote a blog titled: “Russell Brand meets Yuval Noah Harari” (see here). In pre-empting the “so what” response concerning my mentioning this, let me state three things. Firstly, when from time to time I check out what blogs of mine people are reading, this one, surprisingly, continues to be one of the more popular. Secondly, I am aware after having written on a subject, when I turn to it later, I find my perceptions may have changed as they have concerning Russell Brand. Thirdly, my subject becomes even more relevant concerning the issues of the day, many of which he touches on, and in this case it is about the shutting down of free speech and what the truth tellers are saying to us. (Given Facebook have just taken down my posting this article for violating their community standards makes me think I am on the right track.)
Around the time two and half years ago when I wrote about Russell, I found that opinions were divided concerning his character and motives. I wanted to be positive in my views, having found him entertaining and insightful, often having something worthwhile to say. I loved his irreverent and inimitable yet winsome approach and still do. But his then relationship with Yuri Noah Harari, where they appeared as best buddies, reminding me of that of the Chuckle brothers, who I saw (and still do) as one of the bad guys, I found somewhat perplexing, wondering why he could go along with him.
Moving on to today, I hadn’t given Russell Brand much thought until recently. Firstly, there was the public criticism often led by the bad guys with a lot of which being unjustified. Secondly, he had come to Christ with some I know who are in the know saying his conversion claims are genuine. Thirdly, he does a daily show that you can check out on Rumble, where he interviews some the afore-mentioned truth tellers who tell us important stuff about that pertaining to what is really going on in the world that the Unholy Trinity, beholden to pushing their narrative, do not. Moreover, he gives them free reign to say what needs saying. One lovely observation (seen in interviews with Alex Jones, Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson) is he often ends his show in prayer!
What I am finding in these turbulent and crazy days in which bad people, often in positions of power, seem to be increasingly getting away with doing wrong. I feel my call to be a watchman on the wall laying more heavily than ever on my heart because this is so and people, including sadly large elements of the western church, are in denial, despair or resignation to the alarming reality that we are going in a wrong direction. The root cause is people denying their obligations toward the Almighty and His ways. Yet there are all sorts of unlikely and unexpected people, who I believe the Lord has put in my path and even some unlikely prophets, that are there to help me out in my watching and praying and inform fellow truth seekers. These I can check out thanks to alternative media but no thanks to mainstream media. These inform and offer a range of perspectives, not always aligning with Biblical Christianity it is true and some even pushing the false light the Devil is good at orchestrating, especially necessitating the need for testing and weighing.
Russell Brand definitely falls into the unlikely prophet category, doing what the church should be doing but with few exceptions isn’t. I am thankful for folk like Russell and a host of others that spring to mind who consider difficult and controversial subjects and offer views that the rich and powerful disapprove off yet which are often right. I don’t endorse all the man says, but I like it when he says words along the lines: “this is what I think; let me know what you think”. Having listened recently, there was a lot needing saying and, along with all sorts of seekers after truth, many of which are vilified and suffer for their truth telling, I feel compelled to pray for them.

I mentioned Russell posts regularly on Rumble what is invariably pertinent and presented in a clear manner (I have recently checked out a number of his recent shows in order to come to this view). There is much I can identify with, e.g. his struggles with mental health and addiction and wanting help others in a Christ honouring way. He also posts on YouTube but as he often points out his more controversial content would be censored if it were posted on YouTube. In recent days we have seen Rumble, along with Telegram and X (formerly Twitter) being taken down in certain countries because of their content and leaders of other countries, led by the USA and UK, threatening to do so if they don’t censor what they deem to be mis/disinformation. At the same time, we have seen the likes of Google, YouTube and Facebook (which is what most people still use to find out what is going on in the world, along with what mainstream media tells us) continuing to operate having (and as has recently been exposed) taken down content that doesn’t fit the narrative that those in power wish to see pushed.
All this and changes in the law and how the law is interpreted by law enforcers is a matter of concern, as I have touched on in some of my recent blogs. While I am happy to give further examples such as what is being proposed regarding the UK banning (LBGT) conversion therapy or currently when something one says is regarded by some as hate speech but that will have to be for a future occasion. The upshot of all this is that we are entering days when to speak objective truth comes at a cost. But this blog is about Russell Brand and if he reads this, my parting words of encouragement is keep up the good work mate and keep focused on the Lord.
