Trumpwatch 45 – the Tide is turning

The inauguration of President Biden in four days time represents the end of the line for those who were hoping it would be President Trump who is inaugurated – OR IS IT?

I am one of those who have been avidly following the fall out from the November 3rd US Presidential election (see episodes 37 through to 44 for my thoughts, which I do not intend to repeat here), almost to the point of obsession. It has been a roller coaster journey ranging from despair to elation, and right now it tends towards the latter, for I know the Lord has the last word. I do not have the equivalent of a Doctor Who Time Machine at my disposal to fast forward. I am merely an unprofitable servant, a humble Watchman on the Wall, who reports on what he sees (if I don’t, who will) and really doesn’t want to claim any moral high ground over those who see things differently. I do not purport to be a prophet, and just as well because God. who is not mocked. requires his children to live by faith.

The “Battle Hymn of the Republic” (published 1862) was sung by soldiers of both sides of the American Civil War (1861 – 1865), which words resonate today: “Mine eyes have seen the glory of the coming of the Lord. He is trampling out the vintage where the grapes of wrath are stored, He has loosed the fateful lightening of His terrible swift sword. His truth is marching on”. What the Republic will look like, putting prophetic utterances aside, after January 20th 2021, is anyone’s guess. We can only echo the words of the refrain: “Glory! Glory! Hallelujah! His truth is marching on”.

Since I published my previous installment in my Trumpwatch series a week ago, a lot of water has gone under the proverbial bridge, and we are left with the mainstream media and assorted Trump detractors anticipating their man, Biden, about to be crowned king (or is it all an act): more Kraken, more rats jumping ship, more swamp creatures going into panic mode, more impeachment fiasco, more evidence of child sex trafficking, more revelations of what happened during the Capitol false flag take over, more horrendous shenanigan news of financial top brass and them who take a bribe, more US military build up (while keeping cards close to their chest) as well as reports of Chinese troops amassing on US borders. Not a time for conspiracy theories, but something is in the air and I can feel the reverberations. As for Trump, he appears to be remarkably calm and unshaken by it all. Besides releasing documents that will likely go to show how bad the bad guys have been, probably holds the Trump cards he hasn’t shown hitherto because he didn’t have to, and imho he has done the right thing of playing “it” by the book, before the Lord, and it has to be Him, calls checkmate.

The longer the show runs the less relevant Trump appears to be. I have managed to upset more Christian leaders in the past week when challenging their anti-Trump rhetoric, despite trying to apply my Proverbs meditations like that to do with a gentle answer turning away anger (15:1). But I do take comfort in the Lord’s words to Jeremiah of the need to toughen up because it is His words that matter, not mine nor my nemesis but His. My point is that what we are seeing is NOT about Trump but it is about God’s purposes. The best thing we can say about Trump is he stands for the unborn and children that have been trafficked, for religious liberty, stood by Israel and is against the motley assortment of bad guys who have become even more in your face since the election. True judgment and mercy often come together. YHWH is a God of righteousness, justice and truth, who hears the prayers of His people, whose voices have been lifted to heaven on related matters and are heard by the one who still speaks through His prophets (and why shouldn’t He).

My best counsel to any reading this is to fasten your seat belts and enjoy the show. No-one knows the details of how it is going to pan out in these next few days and months, not even the prophets. I don’t like cliches, despite being guilty of using them, but the best advice I can offer is “Watch and Pray”, “Test and Weigh” and “Trust and Obey”. I leave the last word with Tiny Tim …
