Trumpwatch 72 – Donald goes to Alaska

It was only just over two weeks ago when I posted my Donald goes to Scotland episode in my Trumpwatch series (see here) and now I am following it up with an episode that is just as significant, and that is to do with the Donald’s trip recent to Alaska to meet with Russian President Putin, along with both their entourages but no Ukrainian President or anyone from NATO, about ending the Ukraine war.

I have already said my piece about Ukraine (e.g. see here), which while not exonerating Russia for invading Ukraine and the terrible war (some of it is proxy) that is currently taking place, have offered an alternative view and one that is unlikely to be found if checking out mainstream media. I have gone out on a limb by pointing out that the views of the “against Russia” protagonists concerning Putin are just as wrong if not more so than those supporting him, noting most of the people that I am closest to think that Russia are the bad guys in that war. While some of those are no fans of UK Prime Minister Starmer, with his seeming unreserved support for the Ukraine cause, evidenced by his just as warm (compared to what Trump gave to Putin) welcome of Ukrainian President Zelenski, reaffirming the UK’s full support, yet is not one of the issues that rate high in their disdain toward the British Prime Minister. One voice that likely views the rights and wrongs of what is happening differently to me is a respected missionary organisation working in Ukraine (see here). It recently reported on Russian drone attacks in many places where they operated, as items of concern and prayer.

I continually note comments by normally awake Christians that Trump is a bad guy who may be leading the way to the Antichrist surveillance and control system that is coming. That may be so. It is why I don’t trust anyone besides God. The way I see it, he is doing something to add a long list of “somethings” that is right and what alternatives to Trump and especially his predecessor (Biden) couldn’t and wouldn’t do – indeed Biden made many things a lot worse. While I believe further calamity is on the way, I see Trump, and Putin come to that, as instruments of the Almighty who will help enable the Church to be what God intends and for Him to be honoured. It happened that their (Trump and Putin) meeting did not result in a deal (that couldn’t happen anyway without Ukraine and NATO compliance) but it all appeared to have been amicable, positive and hopeful (see here). We need to watch what follows with prayerful interest, hoping for a just settlement, including peace with honour and a cessation of the enormous casualties and deaths of many innocent people who are now caught up in that conflict.
