Thank God for the Truthers

Doing my customary Google search concerning the meaning of some controversial term, I found that a “truther” is “a person who doubts the generally accepted account of an event, believing that an official conspiracy exists to conceal the true explanation; a conspiracy theorist”, although I question if conspiracy is official.

Some of my nice Christian friends, including some who are awake, may switch off in irritation at this point. If you do – in the words of Ricky Gervais: you can ****** because I am now past caring. Sadly, I have had too many run ins with those more tied into what we are told to think, including among Christians, to do anything else. Otherwise, buckle up, hang around; you will learn something!

When I was much younger, a Pentecostal pastor friend criticised another Pentecostal pastor (in private, let me add) because, in his opinion, that man saw demons around every corner. I now feel a bit like the person who was criticised, not in terms of where I believe demons to be lurking but rather that I am firmly of the view things are often not what we are told (check my website for how I got there, for what I think is happening and why). It is very much work in progress and many questions remain unanswered. Concerning whether or not I regard myself as being a truther, I would much rather identify as someone who seeks after truth because that is what the Lord requires of me and you. While many conspiracy theories turn out to be facts, not all are and not all events are as a result of a hidden hand. As for demons, along with angels, they are active today. I don’t claim to be an expert, but I am a Bible student and my reading is there are many outstanding and remarkable prophecies concerning the end of the world and the battle for the soul of humanity, measured in spiritual terms (e.g. in Daniels discussion with an angelic being, which we can read about in Daniel 10:4-20). Before returning to the spiritual, I will offer a temporal perspective and say why having a good understanding matters.

I should add that ignorance is no excuse and allowing bad people to do bad things and get away with it when it is in our power to stop them or at least curtail their evil doings is NOT what I believe God does require of us, even if the church is going to be raptured before things get much worse. When I look at my own country and happenings, even over the past few months under its awful Labour government, I do so with consternation. Whether it is supporting and pumping money into Ukraine in its needless war, re-entering the EU through stealth, its ineptitude over illegal immigration, signing up to the terrible WHO pandemic treatment, persisting with its net zero climate agenda, letting out violent criminals from prison early, to be replaced by those found guilty of thought crime, it is looking very depressing and as for the opposition: Conservative, LibDem, Greens and even Reform, none look likely to be able to address the real issues that are facing us. There is good news of course – reaction to similar happenings and a popular uprising across Europe, the UK population waking up, and the Trump administration perhaps doing what British politicians can’t, standing up for free speech and resisting the UK Deep State and on the side of those valuing national identity and traditional British values. While there is much I like, I have some qualms over Trump (to be discussed in my next Trumpwatch blog) and recognise the all too human propensity to look for deliverers out of one’s dilemma.

Like any who want to know what is really going on around them, I need to check out reliable sources, conscious none can tell me all I want or need to know and indeed some things are beyond knowing for sure by myself and those I imagine are reading this. But we can “do our own research”, albeit recognising our limitations and all who we may follow could be wrong. Unlike most Brits, I far from trust the mainstream media. I feel compelled to check out what alternative sources have to say. I have come up with a list of some that I check out these days. None of those I mention here are Christians in my theological camp (some far from it). There are the Christian voices of those I regard as theologically sound, offering views on what is going on in the world, of course, but all too few, and many of these are plain wrong. None of my selection are 100% correct in everything (some could be controlled opposition). But all of them have stuck their heads over the parapet to speak out and are to be congratulated. I value much of what they say. It all goes into the mix before making up my mind on what parts may be true:

David Icke

Yes, the very same “Queen is a reptile” man, who has been at it (a pain to the proverbial backside of the establishment) for donkey’s years, yet a lot of what he says turns out correct.

Alex Jones

Yes, the same “gay frogs and Sandy Hook was a conspiracy” man, who has also been a pain and been telling the public unpalatable truths, yet has often later been shown to be right.

Charlie Ward

Yes, the “real Joe Biden was executed in 2020” man, who has a daily news slot, along with co-hosts, and in it brings up items of newsworthy interest, often not covered elsewhere.

Tucker Carlson

A much-respected conservative commentator from Fox News, now let go and with his own media outlet, interviewing many interesting subjects with insights into today’s craziness.

George Galloway

This is a non-conservative voice that says it as he sees it, yet coming out with a surprising amount of common sense, giving important insights into happenings in Ukraine and Gaza.

Russell Brand

This is a recently converted hedonist and comedian with his refreshingly irreverent approach that combines irony, truth, humour, with his own show reaching out to wakened wonders.

Edward Snowdon

This is a whistleblower, who is now exiled in Russia for exposing and having spoken out concerning the illegal surveillance of individuals in the U.S. and beyond.

Julian Assange

This is another whistleblower who has incurred the wrath of US authorities for exposing US government corruption, doing so through his Wikileaks platform.

Andrew Bridgen

This brave, former UK parliamentarian, speaking out on things like Covid jabs, is now regularly contributing on X with his valuable insights to happenings in the UK and beyond.

Jim Ferguson

Latest in a long line of those who challenge “the narrative”, also found on X and providing many valuable insights and is helped by guests who have something worthwhile to say.

Brian Gerrish

He is one of the UK Column (a show broadcast thrice weekly) crew, who brings out stuff happening in the UK and beyond, and what comes out is usually very timely and insightful.

Dan Wootton

Another recent discovery, often posting his own thoughts, which include as a result of him interviewing guests. He has a lot to say on happenings of interest, especially in the UK.

Tommy Robinson

He has just been released from prison – another political prisoner. Famous (or infamous) for exposing Muslim rape gangs in the UK and their cover up by the UK authorities.

Melanie Phillips

This cultural commentator who is much maligned for challenging the cultural Marxism of our day and offering views on hot topics like Israel invariably offers timely and profound insights.

Katie Hopkins

This lady has long been around exposing British wokeness and is now doing regular short video presentations, to be found on YouTube, under the label “Batshit Bonkers Britain”.

Laura Aboli

An amazing lady who regularly posts on her Telegram channel on a variety of stuff which is or should be of interest to us all regarding all sorts of things that are going on in the world.

I realise these are not everyone’s cup of day given their take on the world and some of the things many of them come out with are outrageous, which is why one should chew the meat and spit out the bones, exercise discernment and adopt my “test and weigh” maxim, whilst being thankful they often come out with pertinent stuff mainstream media choose to ignore. There is much more I can say on all the above, including why what they say is relevant and important – but that will have to be for another time or when I refer to them in my blogs. But suffice to say, all of these I have found helpful in reaching a view. While I don’t ignore mainstream sources or thoughts of those who go along with what the “Unholy Trinity” (media, government, elites) say, I confess I often find my 16 more credible. But how far does one go down the various rabbit holes, especially when there seems little we can do with the knowledge we gain and it could be a distraction from one’s Christian calling?

There is no easy answer. Wisdom is needed on how to respond, as well as recognising God is calling out a holy people that will bless others by lives well lived, speaking and enacting the Gospel message. We are told in Psalm 133 1 “How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity!” so I shouldn’t get on my high horse etc. because I think I’m right and other people, often including respected Christian leaders who should know better, don’t see what I see, and sometimes oppose me. I reckon, even among those who read this, there will be widely differing views on how the world is, including identifying who are the good and bad guys, and in what ways events may be connected. All this may be less important than uniting in what truly matters. All my truther examples are living. There are many I can think off who aren’t and there are some whose ideology is a far cry from my own. It is also worth adding that living the truth, e.g. by the way we treat others, may be even more important than speaking it. I can think of several who fit that bill.

We live in extraordinary days and disagreeable things are happening all around us at an alarming rate. Yet there is room for hope and reasons for being encouraged, including good people doing good and God is in control. I often remind myself and others: what matters most include faithfulness, godliness, and kindness, truly loving God and one’s neighbour and sharing the good news concerning Jesus to who and wherever we can. I aspire by God’s grace to share that good news to all, as Jesus said we must, and be an exemplar of these virtues. While there may be a call for action, our hope must be in God and for Him to act as He sees best. Helped by my 16 and other truthers, I will continue to share what I see as I watch from my wall. But I end with a hymn that I told my beloved: if there were to be a memorial service for me when I depart this life, I would like sung.

So often when I write, I find after that I have written on the subject, expressing related thoughts, earlier. In this case my Truth and Truthers” article (see here) was written almost three years ago!
