Trumpwatch 70 – Back to Ukraine

Another Trump related blog so soon after the last one, and why not!? The Donald sending Ukraine’s Volodymyr home with a flea in the ear, soon after getting on so well with France’s Emmanuel and Britain’s Keir, has provided us with some great entertainment and has triggered many, including those who don’t usually say much, with all points of view on the Trump good bad spectrum, to weigh in with their unsurprising views, and some not knowing what to say.

Although, to be fair, it is a lot more than about Trump in this high-stake game involving world leaders all setting out their “righteous” positions, and often opposed to one another. I have weighed in on social media with a view, coming up against respected, intelligent friends who see things differently, some suggesting I desist from digging myself an even deeper hole to fall into although, from what I can make out, all echoing the narrative that we (in the UK at least) are expected to follow by the Unholy Trinity (media, politicians, elites) that Trump is the villain, along with his mate, Putin, with his imperialist designs, and Zelensky is a hero. But if I don’t speak to correct this view then who will, and who will stand for truth in this battle of good versus evil and in seeking just and peaceful solutions?

I do so with some trepidation as there is much I don’t know and some of what I think I know may be as a result of listening to too many conspiracy theorists. While I have discussed Ukraine in my blogs, ever since the Russian invasion three years ago, there is a lot more deep diving to be done and I have hardly begun. Without wanting to sound sanctimonious – the only side I hope I’m on is God’s. One of the more compelling arguments for my keeping quiet was by a pastor friend who knows several good Christian leaders in Ukraine, all of which (according to him) support the Ukraine leadership in their resistance to the “illegal” Russian invasion. As an aside, I have weighed the words of so many UK Christian leaders to know that few truly “get it” regarding the issues and concerns that apply to the UK, and how these ought to be addressed. If they did, they would have taken the UK government to task, the worst imho in living memory, when they were asking for our votes back in July.

I have been good, methinks – well sort off lol! I have taken on board the advice of my illustrious, academic, Christian, Zelensky hero, Trump and Putin villain, friend and not given my views on recent events (at least muchly) – despite champing at the bit to do so when seeing all sorts of nice folk giving their imho wrong opinions and in the light of significant developments. But …

I have been advised by a respected friend to keep quiet about Ukraine. Maybe it is time to leave it to others, such as the chap who I don’t know, whose words of “wisdom” I share here, especially when it appears that I am way out of my depth putting forward my “half baked” ideas and sharing what people who are discredited by some have to say. But as “they” say, we are where we are and someone needs to speak out. Our hearts go out to the many who are suffering as a result of the conflict and in a world led by those who do opposite to that of the coming king and evidently do not rule by the principles of truth, righteousness, justice and meekness of our coming King. But I will continue to watch and pray, test and weigh, trust and obey and, with God’s help, endeavour to be a better man and maybe, to an extent at least, say less and instead extol the virtues of Him spoken about in Psalm 45!

I share these two thoughts above that I (separately) wrote on my Facebook page 2-3 days ago, to precede those of people expounding the sort of views I am about to share here. I had an interesting exchange with another of my detractor friends when I told her I once believed the peoples of the world can be divided into three groups: fool, villain and good guy, but later came to refine that view to we are all a mixture of all three and often it is difficult to assign percentages to how much of each of the three we need to get to 100%. Where me and my detractors differ is that when it comes to the likes of Trump, Putin, Zelinsky, Biden, Starmer, Macron and Von der Leyen as to which of the afore-mentioned fool, villain and good guy categories in which to place them.

I am of the view that the last five have as much fool and villain in them (probably more and that they are a big part of the problem facing us) than the first two. I should add that in response to a question that was posed to me recently by one of my nice, bemused Christian friends struggling to come to terms with what is really happening and with Trump’s character, that while Trump has his faults, some of which are serious and concerning, I support what he is trying to do and, moreover, see it as a great opportunity for the good guys to do their stuff, and nowhere was this more evidenced than in his recent State of the Union address (see here).

What I am not going to do is to discuss in depth a number of issues (all I raised previously) that are to do with Ukraine, yet which are relevant to the discussion and, while the way ahead being put forward by Zelinsky, the previous US administration, Starmer, Macron and Von der Leyen that all that is needed is for Russia to withdraw troops from Ukraine to achieve peace, it is not going to happen like that and tragically the nightmare of the past three years looks like continuing, following the disastrous end to the Trump and Zelensky talks (which I will return to). I would argue that concerns around each one of these points need addressing to arrive at peace.

  1. Colour revolution
  2. Nato expansion
  3. Earlier US involvement
  4. High level corruption
  5. Nazi brigades
  6. Child trafficking
  7. Bio weapon labs
  8. Money laundering
  9. Attacks on Russian speakers
  10. Attacks on free speech
  11. Khazarian Mafia
  12. What the prophets say

Back to the “press conference” that went pear shaped at the end (check out here for all 50 minutes of it). Trump received a lot of the flak for his “bullying” etc. as did Zelensky for taking the opportunity, with the eyes of the world fixed on him and Trump, to renege on the position agreed earlier (giving USA mineral rights, while suing peace with Putin, in exchange for monetary support) and to promote his own agenda and that of his handlers and one in which no concessions are agreed. I confess, I also wondered if Trump was indeed bullying (my own inclination might be to turn up in army attire, like Zelensky, rather than smart suits (unlike Macron and Starmer) and, when if comes to diplomacy skills, I suspect I might be more in the Zelensky school rather than in the Macron and Starmer one and am all too aware of power dynamics).

It is why you need to listen to the WHOLE exchange and understand the back story, both of which were conveniently overlooked by much of the media – and people fell for it. Trump’s stated policy is not to get involved in a war that could have been avoided if my points were addressed, especially that of NATO expansion, and that any money handed over from now on to the Ukraine government, is a loan that needs repaying rather than as a  gift, which as the DOGE/USAID investigation has shown, much in the past has been misappropriated by corrupt politicians and those in cahoots with them. The mineral deal was merely a way to not just ensure money is repaid and would be used as a negotiating point when it comes to talks with Putin.

The aftermath was interesting. If I were a conspiracy theorist, I would say the belligerence on Zelinsky’s part was a pre-arranged set up that involved US and European politicians that were opposed to Trump and his getting peace with honour position that includes a judicious use, at most, if slagging of those he wants to make peace with. Following being “kicked out” of the White House, Zelensky flies off to England, not just to meet with Keir Starmer, receiving his accustomed hero’s welcome, but also King Charles and EU and NATO leaders, where an alternative deal was made and a lot more money promised and also the frightening prospect of European leaders, led by Starmer and Macron offering military aid and committing their nation’s troops in support, despite many of their citizens not agreeing to pouring in resources to a hopeless cause.

A lot more can be said and not to be ignored is we need to see things from God’s and even a prophetic perspective – but I may have said enough. No doubt there will be developments, including surprising and startling ones, in the days ahead (and talking of cards, USA leaving NATO may be one Trump may play). And while one could say a lot more, including discussing the arguments of those who see things in similar ways to me (as well as those who don’t), I will end by sharing six of the best that I have found particularly helpful. Just prior to going to press, and since this is a Trumpwatch article after all, I received this from one of my several detracting friends who sees Trump as an outright villain: “Donald Trump is turning America into a mafia state” Jonathan Freedland (see here) – but these are my six that each make powerful, pertinent points:

  1. “We Can’t Even Defend Kent Let Alone Kyiv”: David Starkey (see here)
  2. ‘Europe needs an independent foreign policy’: Professor Jeffrey Sachs at European Parliament (see here)
  3. Ukraine narrative is collapsing, but NATO leaders are pushing for WW3: David Kurten (see here)
  4. INTERVIEW: Meltdown in the Oval Office: George Galloway (see here)
  5. THEY DON’T WANT YOU TO KNOW – The Deep State’s DEADLY Delusion and Impending DISASTER: Neil Oliver (see here)
  6. Barrister REACTS – Zelenskyy, Trump & Vance Major Fallout (see here)

As always, I try to end on a hopeful note which, given where we appear to be and our (if you are British) Prime Minister committing us to acts of further folly, it appears nigh impossible. So I would rather point people to the Lord and urge people to turn and return to Him. The most encouraging sign is God working in the hearts of men and in His wisdom some of the disagreeable things we have been seeing have helped to achieve that end. Today, I watched a short video titled: “Incredible Reports Of Revival Are Sweeping Across The United Kingdom!” (see here). I was heartened and see such revival as the only way out of our quandary.

    Dear John,

This is a well written article. Putin is a villain. He did attack a sovereign nation. After three years of war, there is a reality which no one can deny, the death and destruction which the war has brought. So, Trump is trying to end the war. The theatrics in the White House may not have happened. But it is time for Zelenski to work with Trump and European leaders to figure out a way to end this war. Otherwise, he will take the Europe into Third World War.

Have your say
