“Priests of the Bible” by John R.Barber (ISBN 978-0-9537306-5-0) was uploaded on to Ingram today! It has taken over two years to produce and after meticulous research and careful proof reading and type setting, it is about to become available to potentially anyone, anywhere who wants to have a copy. It is likely my last hurrah writing project and is my chance to share what the Lord has laid on my heart over 70 years concerning subjects of immense importance and those which I feel serious seekers after God will find helpful.

“Priests of the Bible” (640 pp) is a sequel to the author’s earlier book “Prophets of the Bible” where he reflected on the life, work and prophecies of the prophets found in the Bible (well-known, little-known and unrecognised). In his “Priests” book he attempts to do something similar concerning the priests we find in the Bible. After introducing the subject, including information concerning the book, the book is divided into three parts: Part 1 (20 chapters) considers the priesthood and how priests of the Bible went about their duties (attempting to answer the who, what, when, why and where questions); Part 2 (20 chapters) considers the lives and work of named priests; Part 3 (20 chapters) considers what is entailed in being a priestly people, not just priests of the Bible but believer-priests today – those who follow Jesus and it also considers the place of priests and ministers in the church. This is followed by Part 4 (six chapters), which looks at kings of the Bible and while shorter than the Prophets and Priests descriptions covers similar ground, followed by six appendices relating to some of the themes covered in the book. The book contains around 100 illustrations relating to the subject; it is meant both as a serious Bible study on subjects that are often neglected by Christian teachers, and it provides a devotional aspect to encourage today’s believer-priests in their walk with God as well as the sort of things today’s priests and ministers and those who follow the faith we call Judaism should be considering.

Update 13/06/24: I recently gave a one-hour presentation (see here) at my church based on several of the slides taken from my book: and this is the video of it – thanks to Chandi (our paid elder) and some of the young lads at the church for doing the techie stuff and for the folk at Providence Baptist Church for patiently listening. It has me ad-libbing, shooting from the hip (nothing new here) trying to cover enormous ground on a wide range of related subjects and doing so in such a short time. Please bear with me for more umms, arrs and stutters than I would have liked and some minor inaccuracies that I would have wanted to have gone back and change – but then it is me giving it to folk straight as I see it and going overboard to make it non-sectarian when covering as I do all sorts of issues where Christians all across the ecclesiological spectrum either disagree on or fail to get when it comes to what I believe to be are very important matters, while encouraging listeners, Christians and non) to truly be/become the priestly people that God desires.
